Adventure does not necessarily mean travelling the world. People often forget about the hidden gems in our own backyards – I am a culprit of this too.
So when a friend told me about an abandoned water park and hotel I could visit within a 30 minute drive of home, I was pretty excited. The location is Prudhommes Landing – once a popular destination teeming with visitors. Now stands a dark decaying hotel with spray paint inside and out, while the last remaining turns of a water slide stand in the background. The hotel is boarded up, but old curtains blow through broken windows signifying its abandonment. It is incredible to see how quickly vines and grass are stealing the water park back to nature.
A fascinating and fun place to explore but be cautious of the condition of the hotel, as it is deteriorating quickly. I remember it in it’s ‘glory days’ when I was a kid. Too bad it’s this bad now. Guess it couldn’t compete with Niagara Falls.

What a great find. Some of the best places we’ve found are within a few miles of our home. We usually start out on the interstate in any direction and take each exit to explore. Of course it helps if you’re in the desert like we are. So many different abandoned wooden structures and vehicles.

How spooky! Looks unreal that people can make it there and get in. I’m sure it’d be a great place to rent out for Halloween now!
Some of the areas inside the hotel were really spooky! I don’t think I would have been able to go through that area alone! But it was pretty neat seeing how quickly things decay and change. 🙂
