Belfountain Conservation area for a winter hike

I think we can agree his winter has been a downer for winter activities. Here is hoping that the coming snowstorm also means more winter activities are on the horizon.

I may not have been able to do any skiing or snowshoeing this Christmas holiday, but I did get in some hiking. My new favourite spots is officially Belfountain Conservation area. A beautiful spot to visit in the summer or winter (although winter is use at your own risk, as its “closed”).

The main park looks out over a lake and waterfall. There are old ruins and a lovely stone fountain. Signs to the left direct hikers towards the Trimble side trail and Gorge loop. The Gorge Loop was my favourite and offers some great views of the water through varied terrain. Overall any easy, but pretty hike, especially in the winter when few people are passing through.

After the hike, we stopped in Belfoutain at Higher Grounds coffee. This shop is rustic, cute and has amazing coffee that is just perfect after a cold hike. Before leaving I took a peek around the country store, where I found an beautiful wood piece with a quote that I couldn’t leave with out.

Sometimes I am amazed at the interesting places there are to visit right here in Ontario.

It’s just a matter of looking at what is outside your door.

  1. Yes, you can find wonders just outside your door. And, thanks to the glaciers, we have a few small slices of Ontario wilderness right here in north central Ohio.
